Getting it all together

Back from a lot of travelling this year (cruise to the azores, MarMic course at Sylt, vacation in India...) I'm finally back in place and will not leave Bremen again before the end of my PhD next year...
Right now it feels overwhelming, beeing in the position to finish it all up here but somehow it's gotta happen tll summer next year.

Also, the band's getting better every rehearsal and we gotta new name & new MySpace: www.myspace.com/hoofandmouth - this new MySpace 2.0 is really a pain in the ass to set up!

Well, trying to adapt to the cold weather first & also having a blast tomorrow in colgne with all my friends for my 30st birthday!

Leaving the Azores

So we arrived at the Azores on the main island Sao Miguel after flying the whole day and changing flights 3 times. We still had some time in the evening to check out the city (I ate the biggest hot dogs I ever saw...) and hang around a nice concert at the city centre, enjoying caipirinha's.

Yesterday evening then we started of to do a 2-day tour and have some of the ships equipment tested in the water. In the meantime the scientists unpack their boxes and set up the equipment. The mood among the people is like the weather quite excellent. I'm sitting in the middle of a lot of boxes right now and will get back to them in a minute.

Setting sail

I'll be flying to the Azores tomorrow morning and then be away until the 12th of October. Here you can see the current position of our research vessel FS Meteor:

Those balloons were prepared by the people attending a wedding party last weekend and were already flying some seconds when I took that picture...

Saw those kids while I was playing with the "panning" function of the FZ-38 which should capture the object in focus while blurring the fast moving background. I even found a third kid :)
